Nicol Mere School Visit – A Joyful Day at Park Lane Chapel

5 Jun 2025

On Thursday 5th June 2025, we were delighted to welcome sixty enthusiastic Year 3 pupils from Nicol Mere Community Primary School in Bryn, accompanied by Mrs Ainscough, staff, and helpers.

Despite the initial grey skies, the sun eventually broke through as the children explored the history and grounds of Park Lane Chapel. Split into two groups, one ventured outside to visit the historic graveyard, passing through the old lych gate and pausing at the grave of one of our past ministers, Rev. Hezekiah Kirkpatrick. They also heard the cautionary and moving tale of the Clay brothers, James and William, who tragically drowned after playing on the frozen canal in February 1873.

The second group remained inside the chapel and journeyed through its rich history, from its founding in 1697 by dissenters through to the present day. They learned about our first minister, Rev. Thomas Blinston, and our most recent, reflecting on the chapel’s enduring presence in the community.

The children asked thoughtful and insightful questions throughout the visit, and their joy, curiosity, and laughter brought new life to our sacred space. Although our activity session was set aside due to a packed programme, the spirit of the day has inspired ideas for future collaboration.

On behalf of Park Lane Chapel, I extend the hand of friendship to Nicol Mere School and warmly welcome them to return anytime. Our doors are always open to those who seek joy, learning, and connection.
